In the early morning the herd had crossed a road, but now it was midafternoon, too late in the day to follow morning spoor. We took a two-track north, then left the truck and walked west. This time the tracks were fresh when we intersected them. It was a big herd, feeding slowly along and leaving many broken branches in its wake, oozing leaves proving we were gaining fast. We would surely catch them, and soon ... Then the wind did a 180. Eland exploded just ahead of us, a few tan forms dimly seen, dust blooming above the main herd.
