A review of research on the effect of physical activity on psychosocial health is presented. Exercise has a positive effect on measures of anxiety, depression, and measures of mood, self-esteem and other indices of psychological well-being. There is evidence indicating both positive and negative effects of physical activity on prosocial behaviors although some individuals are compulsive about exercise.
