Studying the work of Charles Baudelaire and of Rimbaud is a chance to study the genesis of a poem with its play of syllables and words. Studying the various drafts of Baudelaire's poetry shows the strictures imposed by poetic meter. Rimbaud starts out as a classicist like Baudelaire but goes beyond the strictures of poetic meter.
