FINGERPRINTS refer to the impressions made by the patterns on the finger. These patterns are formed by the 19th week of pregnancy and do not change significantly after that.
So-called identical twins have different fingerprints although they are more similar than those of unrelated people.
It has never been rigorously shown that fingerprints are unique and if fingerprints were introduced to courts for the first time today, it is unlikely that they would be accepted without proof of their uniqueness.
