Up to 30 percent of patients with chest pain suggestive of coronary artery disease have normal findings on coronary arteriograms. The term "syndrome X" has been used to define patients with exercise-induced angina, a positive electrocardiographic (ECG) response to exercise and normal coronary arteriograms. Kaski and associates examined the characteristics of patients with syndrome X.
