When Ron Darling pitched for the Mets in the 1986 World Series, his mother was the only member of his family who rooted for him. His father and two brothers cheered on their beloved Red Sox.
So, when Darling pitched well and allowed only an unearned run in a 1-0 loss in Game 1, it was the best of both worlds.
"That was perfect for them," Darling recalled.
