Juan Carlos I launch: once she had completed her unbelievably quiet and gentle slide down the Navantia shipyard slipway and entered the waters of Ria de Ferrol, near Coruna on the northwest coast of Spain on 10 March 2008, the Juan Carlos I effectively became the Spanish Armada's largest aircraft carrier.(What's Up?)

The new carrier, with a 27,563-tonne displacement, was launched a few minutes after 18:09 hours precisely (when the tide was at its highest!) by Queen Dona Sofia. Upon completion planned for the second half of 2008 and delivery for Spanish Navy subsequent trials in 2009, the buque de proyeccion estragerica will eventually join the service's other carrier and current Armada flagship, the 17,190-tonne Principe de Asturia.
