Editor--The Institute of Chinese Medicine at The Chinese University of Hong Kong has conducted research programmes on herbal efficacy and clinical trials using acupuncture. Acupuncture clinical trials have been planned using a uniform set of acupuncture points for the treatment of clinical syndromes suffered by patients selected on uniform criteria. The method of puncture, ie needle entry, depth reached, needling manoeuvres, duration of needling, needle removal, and the use of electrical stimulation (where applied), were all standardised.
