With the sustained price rise of crude oil and the growing demand for coal in the international market, the price of Australian power coal as the benchmark price of coal in Asia increased to US$150 per ton at the end of May, hitting a new historical high. To ensure the power supply during the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, power plants in China are increasing the inventory of power coal. The price of coal in the domestic market has also created a historical record.
