A beautifully-crafted model of the ship Thermopylae lay neglected and out of sight in the cellar of a museum. . . until two Brighouse enthusiasts turned detective. SOPHIE SEDDON reports.

ONE of Brighouse's hidden treasures will be dropping anchor for the first time in 40 years at Brighouse Art Gallery.
The model ship - a copy of the 'Thermopylae' - was created by the late Brighouse craftsman, Carl Haviour.
After donating it to the people of Brighouse in the 1930s, it was placed in a glass case and kept at the Smith Art Gallery, Brighouse, where it docked for more than 30 years.
But when Calderdale Council formed in 1974, the ship was removed. It has lain forgotten in a cellar at Bankfield Museum, Halifax, ever since.
