North Americans (and John Denver) wax romantic about the Rocky Mountains, a favorite winter and summer vacation destination. When pressed for more details about the exact location and characteristics of this physical region, however, many Easterners draw a blank. Other than knowing that the Rockies are "out West" or "in Colorado," many Easterners, for the most part, know relatively little about the geographic dimensions of these famous and photogenic mountains.
