Good morning, and welcome to all of you, especially to the honorees, their family members, their friends, the distinguished Members of Congress.
The Presidential Medal of Freedom is the highest honor given to civilians in the United States. It has a special history, established 50 years ago by President Truman, to honor noble service in time of war.
