Pres. Bill Clinton assured the UMW that his administration is pro-family, pro-worker and pro-union. The chief executive also reiterated the importance of maintaining the Mine Safety and Health Administration as a separate agency to protect the welfare of mine workers. Pres. Clinton also pledged his commitment to protect coal miner retirees' health care benefits through the Rockefeller Act, also known as the Coal Act.
