In the midst of debates surrounding sexual politics and subjectivity, this exhibition of photographs, drawings, paintings and books by Hans Bellmer (1902-1975) seemed propitious indeed. The diverse work highlighted Bellmer's lack of allegiance to any medium and his converse devotion to a single subject: the female body, reified, dismembered and reconfigured according to masculine desire.
