SITTING beside my son Shaun's hospital bed, my heart sank as the doctor walked towards us. The expression on his face told me the news was bad and I grabbed Shaun's hand.

My son was just 15, and dying from a genetic heart condition. But the doctor wasn't visiting us about Shaun - he had important news about my youngest boy Toby, 14.

I wept as our worst fears were confirmed. Tests showed that Toby also had the heart defect. Was I going to lose both my boys?

But the doctor had more news for us - Shaun might have actually saved Toby's life.
