The Lancashire Evening Post has launched a five-part series on family history by speaking to experts in the field.

Lecturer and historian Andrew Gritt set up the University of Central Lancashire's Institute of Local and Family History seven years ago.

Working on his PHD in the Lancashire Record Office, Andrew started to talk to family historians and "realised there was a mutual interest, so we would be able to help each other".

He says: "There is still a lot of snobbery amongst the academic community about family history.
