The World Council of Churches' Salvador, Bahia, Brazil conference in 1996 will adopt the theme 'Called to One Hope: The Gospel in Diverse Cultures.' The theme holds great significance for African women, who have been constant victims of marginalization and oppression. They are being called upon the serve as examples of how Christians can be strengthened by the gospel despite living in poor and hostile conditions.
