Convinced that she was divinely chosen to aid France in ending the long dispute with England, Joan was determined to see the Dauphin crowned as Charles VII. Her first task was to persuade the reluctant Dauphin to journey from Chinon to Reims, the traditional coronation site of French kings. And, for him to reach Reims, he would have to pass Orleans, the gateway to loyal France and the last major city still in French hands.
