Glorious sunshine, white sandy beaches, T-shirted tourists and tanned locals have given the Uists a touch of the Mediterranean in recent weeks.
The image has been further highlighted by a rash of exotic birds, more akin to the playas of Spain and Portugal than the machairs of South Uist.
Hoopoes have been seen on North Uist and in a builder's yard at Daliburgh on South Uist. Further reports in northwest Scotland have come from Lochinver, Skye and Harris.
