Centrica made operating profit of pounds 1.95bn last year, up from pounds 1.39bn.
The first half of 2007 saw the group make pounds 1.25bn.
At the company's annual general meeting in London yesterday, chairman Roger Carr did not give any further indication about possible domestic price rises.
He said he knew customers were having difficulty paying bills but he defended efforts to increase profits.
