NEW YORK -- Dollar stores and other extreme-value retailers have done a good job of broadening their appeal to consumers across a wide swath of demographic groups in recent years. While some dollar store chains have stumbled a bit recently, analysts say a weak economy could reignite their popularity with shoppers, making them more of a competitive threat to other retailers.
