In January 1995, when I first heard of the Rudolf Nureyev Dance Foundation, I was delighted. At last the dance world would have, from one of its own, the kind of support Bernstein, Copland, and other such giants provided to the music world by establishing similar foundations. I still hope that will be the case, even though some questions have arisen concerning exactly what course the foundation will take.
