William Collins's Odes on Several Descriptive and Allegoric Subjects (1746) has long been acknowledged as an important collection of odes (see Schluter 110-144; Jung, William Collins and "The Poetical Character" 60-117). Collins's scholars have usually focused on the ideational contexts of the odes, thereby ignoring both the form and the metrical, morphological, and compositional structure of the poems.
