Background

The Hedgehog (Hh) signaling pathway has been shown to be of fundamental importance for patterning and cell proliferation in animal development (for review see [1, 2, 3, 4]). Mutations in this pathway cause congenital defects and several types of cancer such as basal cell carcinoma and medulloblastoma [5, 6, 7, 8].
