Unusually fine preservation of soft anatomy in the fossil record, often referred to as Lagerstatte deposits, has led to great advances in understanding the evolution of life. The brine pool was closed on February 26 as part of the first phase of refurbishment work which is set to see the rest of the complex, including the Gala Baths, re-open later this year.
