Preliminary figures for U.S. manufacturers' new orders for factory durable goods for February show a 1.7% decline overall.
The machinery industry showed a decline of double digits (-13.3%), perhaps in a wait-and-see atmosphere surrounding the mid-February passage of the 2008 Economic Stimulus package. The machinery decline was the largest percentage decrease since the series was first stated on the NAICS basis in 1992.
