The state Supreme Court delivered a setback to a group of hotels near LAX, upholding Los Angeles city officials' efforts that began nearly two years ago to require the hotels to pay about 2,000 workers a "living wage," officials said Thursday.

The court ruled late Wednesday that it would not hear an appeal of the case, finding that the city acted properly when it changed an initial ordinance on the issue last year to avoid a referendum on the move.
