THIS week Newt Gingrich was found innocent of an ethics charge for nearly the 300th time since he became a member of the House 17 years ago. The official count may never be known because the Ethics Committee does not make charges public unless formal action is taken or Democrats choose to leak them. Overall, Gingrich's career ethics scorecard is roughly as follows: 300 exonerations, about a dozen de minimis technical violations, zero serious violations.

There is also a pending investigation of a charge already investigated in depth on at least three previous occasions. ...
