Lindstrom's new book on cargo cults is worth reading. I agree with Lindstrom's focus on the story-telling practices of anthropology and the need to do a genealogy of the tacit assumptions, desires and interests which shape what can be thought at any given time. Lindstrom rightly points out that national elites in contemporary Melanesia use the label 'cargo cult' to criticize and marginalize opposition to themselves.
