ASHBURNHAM - Unexpected state money - $115,000 - has been injected into the town operating budget, and selectmen have discussed using about $30,000 of it to keep up with the Police Department's cruiser rotation program.

The police fleet is small - four marked vehicles and one unmarked. Before Loring Barrett became police chief two years ago, there was no plan for buying new cruisers.

"The rotation was out of whack before I got here a few years ago, without a replacement plan in place, and the department had to buy two cars in 2005," he said.
