Alva Myrdal was one of the staunchest proponents of reforming Sweden's public school system. Myrdal began her battle for educational reform in the late 1930s when she proposed the inclusion of working class students in academic secondary schools. Although faced with strong opposition, particularly from the upper class, Myrdal continued with her fight to establish equality in the Swedish public school system.
