Reincarnation is a flawed doctrine.(News)

S Thaver (Herald, March 16) has it completely wrong. The Bible does not hint at reincarnation.

John the Baptist was not a reincarnation of Elijah; rather it was his explosive ministry that reminded the people of the Old Testament prophet. In fact, they even mistook Jesus to be John the Baptist, notwithstanding that they were contemporaries.

Reincarnation conflicts with the biblical doctrine of salvation. A merciful God will not condemn his people to an inexorable cycle of births and rebirths in a frustrating, futile attempt to achieve the impossible - salvation.
