NEWPORT NEWS -- NEWPORT NEWS - Carolyn Dorn Smith, 77, a longtime Newport News resident, passed away at Riverside Regional Medical Center March 17, 2008.

Born Dec. 31, 1930, in Sumter, S.C. to the late Rev. Creighton and Clara Dorn, Mrs. Smith was a 1951 graduate of Asbury College in Wilmore, Ky., where she played on the girl's basketball team. She graduated in 1953 from Asbury Theological Seminary and upon graduation served as director of Christian Education at Edenton Street United Methodist Church in Raleigh, N.C. for several years.
