While soldiers are protecting Iraq's people, historians are saving something else--artifacts. Iraq is located in a region once known as Mesopotamia, which in ancient Greek means "land between rivers." Several great civilizations arose there more than 10,000 years ago, building cities and inventing everything from sailboats to an early form of writing.
