STRETCHING OVER a thousand miles from inside Europe to the borders of Iran, Turkey is a natural bridge between the secular West and Muslim East. This land has been a key player in world history for more than three thousand years. Today the Republic of Turkey is a secular democracy with a Muslim majority. If it can fulfill its potential as a political and cultural bridge between East and West, Turkey will play a pivotal role in the world's future.
