EPA self-disclosure program reduces potential penalties. (Environmental Protection Agency)

The EPA has issued a policy statement pertaining to self policing and self disclosure by companies for violations of environmental protection laws administered by the EPA. The policy is designed to encourage companies that discover violations within their own operations to report those violations. Under the policy statement, the self disclosure may result in no penalties, or, at least, limited ones.

The EPA developed this policy to convey a greater certainty in the EPA's enforcement response to companies violating environmental compliance. The agency further believes that ...
