This is a week of some unusual crossover classical music that draws on world music, folk music and even rock tunes. (See the accompanying story for more.)

The biggest event will no doubt be three concerts by the Madison Symphony Orchestra , which, under the baton of John DeMain , will give the world premiere of "The Forty Steps."

That work is paired with the rarely heard "Stabat Mater"

by Rossini , which will feature four guest soloists and the Madison Symphony Chorus.

Concerts take place in Overture Hall on Friday at 7:30 p.m., ...
