Dancers need not be anxious about retiring from the profession, as they have plenty of options after retirement. They can offer choreography services, take or teach dancing lessons, manage dance companies, write memoirs or take care of their families.
When dancers are very young, I am told, they have a tendency to think of themselves as immortal (an observation reinforced, unfortunately, by the fact that so many of them continue to smoke cigarettes). As with the rest of us, however...
