For Albany native Walter Launt Palmer, his third trip to Venice in 1881 for a two-month stay was enough to inspire him to produce roughly 300 vivid, richly hued landscape paintings, sketches and studies from his Columbia Street studio years after he left the Italian city to which he never returned.
The exhibit "Venetian Scenes" - at the Albany Institute of History & Art through June 1 - showcases 10 of Palmer's oil, watercolor and gouache canvases, based on hundreds of sketches and photographs of places like the ...
