The Labor Department is encouraging retailers to deal only with suppliers that follow labor regulations to avoid sweatshop environments. Retailers that can demonstrate that they are making efforts will be listed for consumers to see on its pre-holiday Trendsetter list. Retailers must educated their suppliers about compliance, show a commitment themselves and be responsive to enforcement efforts made by the government.
