Floodgates open as historic weir collapses.

Heavy rains and unusually high river levels have caused the historic Thomastown Weir on the River Nore to collapse.
An entire side of the V-shaped weir has washed away, leaving a gaping 40 metre hole in its place.
What was once a slow moving pond above the weir is now a mass of rushing water as the flow heads uninterrupted downstream.
Thomastown Anglers development officer and Nore fishing guide Jim Brown said there had been damage to the weir for some time, but the major collapse only took place two weeks ago.
