Gospel music has long played an important part in the African-American community. The changing nature of gospel music can only be explained by considering all the factors involved in making this type of music. The cultural, societal and historical processes that engender the development of gospel music should also be considered. The evolvement of gospel music in New Orleans, LA, is discussed.
