Most mammals, with the notable exception of squirrels, live lives of stealth and are experts at going unnoticed. Once a fresh blanket of snow falls, however, we are sometimes offered a glimpse into their lives. Tracks might show us where a small herd of deer crossed a road, or where a rabbit spent the night foraging in a raspberry thicket. Suddenly, the world of mammals is much more apparent to us.
