On occasion a customer will set a length for an index, and when I am done indexing, I find that I need to adjust the index to fit the space. Sometimes a customer will return an index asking me if I can remove entries to make it shorter. Sometimes I wonder if editors cut entries from my indexes on their own to get to a length they want and do not even involve me. In any of these scenarios, no matter who does the cutting, the best approach means having a strategy.
