You'd think high-tech executives would be more vocal about the proposed demise of the Commerce Department. After all, the agency has become one of the industry's staunchest backers in Washington and an effective helper overseas.

But most high-tech executives are watching rather than participating in this battle. They believe the department _ and other parts of the federal government _ need to be restructured, that almost any change would be for the better.
