Nations in the Caribbean Basin along with Mexico accounted for a 6% increase in the import of clothing and textiles to the US. A report by the Commerce Dept said that the gains registered by Mexico and the Caribbean nations were at the expense of China, which saw its clothing and textile exports to the US drop by almost 7%. Commerce Dept official Donald Foote says that July 1995 was the second consecutive month in which apparel and textile imports from China had declined.
