Postwar conservatism in US society has progressed through three stages: traditional conservatism with its solid support of the ideals of the Republican Party, neoconservatism with its ambivalent view on politics and religion-based conservatism. The last stage is seen in the strength of the 'born-again Christian' movement. It aims to infuse politics with a moral and religious dimension.
