Burma's pro-democracy leader, Aung San Suu Kyi, used a rare moment of freedom in the military-ruled country to urge Asian governments not to be lulled into believing the junta's promises of political change.

Suu Kyi was allowed to meet with members of the National League for Democracy Jan. 30. The meeting at a military guesthouse in Rangoon was the second time in three years that she has been allowed to meet with the political party she heads. Burma's junta has kept the Nobel Peace laureate under house arrest for more than 12 of the past 18 years.
