Putting to rest any doubts about the future of late-night television on NBC, network executives have signed Tonight Show host Jay Leno to a new contract extension that will keep the comedian on the show into 2000.

According to Leno, he had been working under a year-to-year option with the network, and the five-year extension gives him, and others who work on the show, some security. "I don't like to work year to year," he said in an interview with BROADCASTING & CABLE. "I like to work with a group of people, and not many of them come and go.
