Nucleic-acid technology is fast gaining popularity as a tool for the diagnosis of hematologic illnesses and for the monitoring of patients afflicted with such disorders. Specifically, this technology is seeing widespread use in the study of hematologic malignancies and inherited hematologic diseases. Nucleic-acid methods are particularly advantageous in the clinical setting because of their unparalleled specificity and sensitivity in pathogen and abnormality detection.
